The Looshan Revellers carnival band will launch their portrayal for Carnival 2012.
Looshan Revellers is but three (3) years old, having entered the carnival fray in May 2010. This was done with the intention of providing an alternative to the costuming which had become prevalent in St Lucia’s carnival. Looshan Revellers Carnival Band's main objective is to try to bring back carnival the way it used to be; to bring a difference to St Lucia carnival where not only the young and sexy can enjoy our culture but all ages can be a part of St Lucia’s biggest cultural extravaganza.
“Looshan Revellers as the name implies is a wholly St Lucian product” emphasizes band leader Ricky James. “Our costumes are all designed and produced in St Lucia”. The band has feature two very colorful portrayals in 2010 with An American Indian Adventure and in 2011, Carnival Extravaganza.
2012 has seen some major changes for the young band with a reorganization of the leadership and executive. Recognizing the need for continuous development, the young band has brought in some new faces and a new designer Debra Allen, as it strives to keep its revelers base and to provide persons who choose to jump with Looshan Revellers, the fun, revelry and excitement of carnival.
On Tuesday April 10 at the Alliance Francaise, Looshan Revellers will unveil its portrayal for Carnival 2012 to invited media personnel and sponsors. “This is a soft launch of our portrayal for 2012 where we will unveil our theme for this year” notes James. “Bearing in mind our ‘Looshan’ focus, the 2012 portrayal will most definitely have a St Lucian theme as the band pays tribute to a great St Lucian.”
Looshan Revellers was founded by veteran carnival revelers who are tired are seeing the same basic costumes on the road every year. All costumes are handmade by Looshan Revellers Mas Camp crew right here in St Lucia and cater for all ages and sizes who enjoyed and continues to enjoy carnival of yesteryear.
